Videogames Industry Strategic Planning

The video games industry on PEI has seen sustained growth and success over the course of the last two decades.

However there is a need for a new and refreshed strategic plan to not only help maintain the pillars that have led to a globally competitive video game industry on PEI, but also to grow the sector to its full potential.

Government, Industry, and Educators have collaborated well over the last 15 years providing 100s of jobs to islanders, and attracting highly skilled workers to the Island, many of whom have remained and have contributed greatly to the Island economy and social fabric. The last strategic plan for the video games industry on PEI was developed in 2005. An up to date industry-led plan is needed to ensure an up to date approach by all stakeholders and offer the strongest conditions for continued success. CreativePEI is partnering with VideogamesPEI to make this happen.

VideogamesPEI was founded in 2018 as an industry association to represent the interests of video game development studios and other video game industry stakeholders in Prince Edward Island. The association brings together over 15 industry stakeholders including video game companies such as SculpinQA/Other Ocean Group, Kabam, Queen Bee Games, Golden Boar Solutions, The Lost Pixels and others as well as other industry stakeholders such as Holland College, UPEI, CreativePEI and InnovationPEI.

This group represents a single cooperative voice and roundtable for local stakeholders, providing its members with open, informal sharing of industry information, contacts, opportunities and more with the goal of improving industry outcomes province-wide.

In August of 2021 a request for proposals was put out to consultants to develop a new strategy. It’s expected that by the end of September the winning consultancy firm will begin to develop a new strategy with a final report expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
