Theatre Production Mentorship Update

By June 11, 2019October 1st, 2021No Comments

Due to the seasonal nature of the economy on PEI theatres across the Island have difficulty recruiting qualified theatre production staff.

Since 2016 CreativePEI has been running a theatre production mentorship program that provides on-the-job training to round out skills needed in order to enter the theatre production industry.

Roughly 18 theatre graduates take part in the mentorship program every year. The program places the graduates at a variety of theatres across the Island to provide in-depth practical training and professional mentorship.

The 15-26 week program is designed to give graduates a behind-the-scenes look at areas such as set design, stage management, costume design, technical production, stage lighting and sound, as well as a look into the economics of running a theatre.

The Theatre Production Mentorship Program will place graduates at a number of theatres throughout P.E.I. such as the Victoria Playhouse, The Guild, The Watermark Theatre and King’s Playhouse.

CreativePEI hopes that by pairing graduates with local theaters the individuals will be able to contribute to the success of the business and gain valuable skills that build on their professional development.

This program was not run in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19.
