Theatre Production Mentorship Update

By Theatre No Comments

The Theatre Production Mentorship Program is a program developed to further the education and careers of young, backstage professionals.

This year, we have a brand new, eager group of about 20 mentees, each with their own unique skills to contribute to their designated theatre’s season of shows.

With mentees at The Watermark, King’s Playhouse, Victoria Playhouse, Anne and Gilbert, and The Guild, Creative PEI is working to organize as many educational and fun experiences as possible in collaboration with each other and within their own theatre communities

Each theatre gives their mentees guidance and responsibilities throughout their season. Some work backstage on sets, costumes, props, stage-management, lighting and sound tech, and others work on the more administrative side, shadowing General Management, taking on some of the marketing tasks, and doing front of house box office work.

This year so far we’ve scheduled a Play Reading workshop with mentee, Benton Hartley on June 24th, a theatre tour on the western side of the Island on July 5th, and multiple workshop ideas heading down the pike with The Confederation Centre of the Arts.

We are very excited about this year’s program, with Mentorship Coordinator Becca Griffin working hard to develop more experiences for everyone to take away new skills while enjoying the process. If you have any ideas for a potential Theatre Production workshop that you’d be interested in sharing with her, please feel free to send Becca a message: assistant@creativepei.ca .

Work PEI Integration

By Employment No Comments

As of today, the Creative PEI website now contains a listing of all the currently available jobs in their “Arts, Entertainment and Culture” category.

We want to see this category be filled with jobs that are posted elsewhere (Facebook, Kijiji, LinkedIn, local websites, etc). If you have a job posting that you want to be displayed on this site, you simply need to create an employer account once (at Work PEI), and then you can create postings for as many jobs as you like.

We also encourage posting gigs / one-off jobs (ie. tear down or set up for an event) on Work PEI, which will allow those jobs to reach a wider audience by appearing both on Work PEI and Creative PEI.

Don’t forget to set the category of the job posting as “Arts, Entertainment and Culture”!

Doors Open Recap

By Sector News No Comments

The first year of Doors Open PEI was a huge success! The weather was cooperating and on our side. A lot of people were out and about enjoying the sunshine and exploring downtown Charlottetown like never before.

The locations that opened their doors for the first annual Doors Open PEI event were The Haviland Club, PEI Potters Studio, St. James Presbyterian Church “The Kirk”, The Old Protestant Burying Ground, Confederation Centre of the Arts, The Great George Hotel, Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, City Hall and the Charlottetown Fire Department.

If you were in attendance this year and want to provide feedback to make things better for next year, please consider completing a quick survey at this link.

Planning for next year is already in the works. We’re asking new arts, historical and culture locations across this beautiful island to open their doors for the first time. We are looking forward to it! Are you?
