Youth Creative Entrepreneurship Incubator – Now Hiring 25 Interns

CreativePEI has openings for 25 Creative Entrepreneurship Interns. The term of these positions is 18 weeks from February 22, 2021 to June 25, 2021.

These positions pay $12.85/hour for 40 hours/week.

The positions are home-based.

The goal of the Digital HIVE is to empower and support 25 youth creative entrepreneurs from diverse communities to capitalize on the COVID-19 opportunity to launch new or pivoted independent businesses.

CreativePEI is partnering with the Black Cultural Society of PEI, the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI Employment Services, the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada and la Fédération culturelle de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard to help us attract participants from diverse communities and ensure the project activities are tailored to their needs.

The program is targeted to youth. While this usually means 30 and under, we are prepared to be somewhat flexible on the upper age.

Creative Entrepreneurship

This program is designed for creative professionals who are skilled at what they do and who are looking to set up a sustainable business based on those skills. The ideal candidate has completed professional training and has developed a strong idea for a creative business but lacks the business skills, connections and support to get that idea off the ground.

Creative entrepreneurship is based on creating and exploiting intellectual property. Creative entrepreneurship is rooted in specialized skills and knowledge and is often driven by passion and desire to make an impact. While often associated with arts and culture, creative entrepreneurship can also be found in culinary arts, niche manufacturing, indie app development, tourism services, value-added agricultural products, business services, etc.

The Program

The Digital HIVE project will be delivered almost entirely online. It will use CreativePEI’s proven Learning Management System to integrate the three components of the program:

  • Training and mentorship
  • Business incubation
  • Peer support networks.

As a Creative Entrepreneurship Intern you will work full-time on setting up your business with the help and guidance of your peers and industry mentors. Interns will take part in an eight-week Creative Entrepreneurship course designed to teach you what you need to know to launch a successful creative enterprise. Our intention is that by the end of your internship your business will be up and running.

As interns you will be expected to work 8 hours a day, five days a week under the supervision of the project Community Manager.

Language

The main body of the program will be delivered in English. We will offer French mentorship opportunities to Francophone participants.

Application Process

The process for getting into these internship positions is competitive. It involves two steps. The first is to complete the online application form.

People who complete the form will be contacted and invited to submit a pitch. A pitch includes:

  1. Cover letter telling us a little about yourself and why you want to get into this program.
  2. Resume
  3. Evidence that you have skills in your field (portfolio, links to your work, testimonials, etc.)
  4. Business Pitch (maximum of two or three sentences answering each of these questions)
  5. a) What is the creative business you would like to develop and launch?
  6. b) Who would your customers be? What benefit would they get from your business?
  7. c) What makes you think that the business could make enough money to sustain you?
  8. d) Why are you passionate about your business idea? How does this fit in with your life goals?

Your business idea doesn’t need to be brilliant or even particularly original. If it was perfect, you wouldn’t need this program. It just has to be your best guess or your fondest dream as to what would make a brilliant business for you. Your business can be anything from a thriving freelance career or a successful touring band to a series of best-selling books or a multinational circus corporation. We are open to anything.

CreativePEI believes that the strongest creative businesses flow directly from your passions, your generosity and the work you are meant to be doing in this world.

People who submit the best pitches will be interviewed for the positions.

If you have questions, you can call Mark Sandiford at (902) 367-3844
