CreativePEI invites you to Dotgain: PEI’s Creativity Conference, October 18 at Holland College in Charlottetown.
This year, CreativePEI is partnering with Holland College, KKP and Thinking Big to offer a one-day professional development conference specifically tailored to the creative community on PEI. Dotgain has three tracks: Design, User Experience, and Arts and Creativity Education on PEI. CreativePEI is hosting the Education track and we encourage anyone who is interested in shaping the future of arts and creativity education on PEI to attend.
The morning will feature two keynote speakers: Emily Cohen, author of “Brutally Honest No-bullshit business strategies to evolve your creative business” and Chris Govias, internationally recognized expert on delivering transformative user-centred experiences.
After lunch (catered by Leonhard’s), we’ll break out into separate tracks. Our track, Arts and Creativity Education on PEI, will have two sessions and a drop-in Rumpus Room for hands-on creative exploration.
Session 1: Do We Really Need Arts Education?
People made art long before art schools. Paul McCartney can’t read music. Pablo Picasso famously said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Some argue that arts education is downright dangerous – actually killing creativity instead of promoting it. This session will feature a Great Debate moderated by trained trumpet player and self-taught comedian, Patrick Ledwell. Do we really Need Arts Education? Prepare to be offended and inspired.
Session 2: The Future of Arts and Creativity Education on PEI
What is the true state of our arts and creativity education landscape? What’s already happening and what can we do to move ourselves further down the path to excellence? Join us for a World-Café style discussion around the Future of Arts & Creativity Education on PEI—you’ll have a chance to discuss the experiences that have been most valuable in your own education, and how we can work together as a sector to build more of these experiences into PEI’s arts & creativity education ecosystem. The afternoon will be punctuated by “reports from the field” of innovative initiatives happening here and elsewhere, to bring fresh ideas and energy to our afternoon dialogue. Bring your best…the revolution starts here!
